Chaz Churchwell

Chaz Churchwell is the founder of Churchwell Insurance Agency and leads the agency’s Executive Liability practice. He entered the insurance industry in 2004 and has spent more than 20 years helping businesses and leadership teams evaluate complex insurance risks.

Chaz founded Churchwell Insurance Agency in 2014 and built the firm as a veteran-owned boutique independent agency. Today, Churchwell serves more than 1,200 clients and maintains access to more than 100 insurance markets. Chaz’s primary professional focus is executive liability, with particular emphasis on D&O insurance for microcap and small-cap public companies, SPACs, de-SPAC transactions, companies preparing to go public, and select private-company and private-equity risks.

Public Company D&O and Executive Liability Focus

Chaz works with CEOs, CFOs, directors, and other executives on D&O program structure, limits, policy wording, securities litigation exposure, Side A protection, runoff, transaction-related risk, and the transition from private-company to public-company insurance.
He regularly publishes and speaks about D&O and public-company risk, including securities class action trends, SPAC and de-SPAC litigation, regulatory developments, and coverage issues affecting smaller public issuers.

SPAC and De-SPAC Market Involvement

Chaz is the host of The DESPAC Podcast, a show focused on what private companies, executives, boards, and advisors need to understand before, during, and after a SPAC business combination. Guests include securities attorneys, CEOs, investment bankers, accounting and audit professionals, transfer agents, investor-relations professionals, and other practitioners involved in public-company transactions.

Chaz has also appeared on The SPAC Podcast to discuss SPAC sponsor D&O coverage, policy customization, D&O pricing, underwriting, and coverage issues that can arise through the SPAC and de-SPAC lifecycle.

Chaz is a member of the Professional Liability Underwriting Society and the National Association of Corporate Directors. His involvement in these organizations supports an ongoing focus on professional liability, corporate governance, board risk, and the responsibilities directors and officers face in the public markets.

Background

Before building Churchwell Insurance Agency, Chaz served eight years in the U.S. Army Reserve. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of North Texas and a master’s degree from Biola University. He is based in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
